Another difference between XCTU and XBee Studio is how to access the firmware update and profile update functionality. While XCTU has actions to update the device firmware or to apply an XBee profile in the Configuration working mode, XBee Studio separates these actions from the device settings view and moves them to different pages. In addition, XBee Studio simplifies both the firmware and XBee profile selection and shows the update progress in a more graphical way.

Firmware Update

XCTU XBee Studio

  1. Add or discover your device.

  2. Click on it while you are in the Configuration working mode.

  3. Click the Update firmware button in the toolbar, select the product family/function set/firmware version and click Update.

  1. Wait until XBee Studio discovers your device.

  2. Open the firmware update view —choose one of the following:

    1. Hover over your device and then click Open Firmware Update.

    2. Click on your device and then click Firmware Update in the left menu.

    3. Click Configuration in the sidebar, then click Firmware Update and finally click on your device.

Profile Update

XCTU XBee Studio

  1. Add or discover your device.

  2. Click on it while you are in the Configuration working mode.

  3. Click the Update firmware button in the toolbar, select the product family/function set/firmware version and click Update.

  2. Open the firmware update view —choose one of the following:

    1. Hover over your device and then click Open Profile Update.

    2. Click Configuration in the sidebar, then click Profile Update and finally click on your device.
