Digi periodically releases new versions of the different radio firmware to fix issues, improve functionality, or add new features. The application includes a built-in system to download firmware on demand when the application connects with an XBee device via BLE. This way you don’t need to worry about keeping the firmware definition files up to date.

However, there could be cases where you need to use beta or test versions of firmware provided by the support team, for example. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Click the Options button located at the top-right corner of the application.

  2. Select the Application preferences option. The Application preferences page displays.

  3. Enable the Download additional firmware from FTP at startup setting and fill the input text with the path to the folder of the FTP server that contains the firmware configuration files. See the Configure the Digi XBee Mobile application topic for more information.

  4. Tap Save.

Now the application will look for non official XBee firmware definition files and download them at startup.

With the Download additional firmware from FTP at startup setting enabled, you can also trigger a manual check at any time. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Go to the Devices list page (first page displayed by the application).

  2. Click the Options button located at the top-right corner of the application.

  3. Select the Check for firmware updates option from the list.
