At this point, your Wi-SUN Development Kit should be fully configured and operational. Using the XBee Wi-SUN Get Started Quick Setup provided in XBee Studio, you have already programmed the appropriate firmware to the XBee Hive Wi-SUN and the XBee Wi-SUN modules, and applied a configuration that prepares them for evaluation.

The network formation process is automatic but may take up to several minutes. Please wait while the devices join the mesh. |
The devices are powered and interconnected, and a Wi-SUN PAN should be automatically formed once the devices boot:
-
Check the Wi-SUN network is formed:
-
In the XBee Hive Wi-SUN, verify that the XBee LED shows either solid green, when Wi-SUN interface is running, or blinking green-cyan, for traffic in the Wi-SUN network.
-
In the XBee Wi-SUN devices, verify that the Connection Status LED blinks once per second.
-
-
Review the Wi-SUN network topology in XBee Studio by selecting the Network Topology option in the XBee Hive Wi-SUN tab.
The XBee Hive Wi-SUN acts as the root of the mesh, while the two XBee Wi-SUN modules join as leaf nodes.
-
Ensure the XBee modules report the IPv6 address given by the Border Router. To do that:
-
Open the device tab of your each device.
-
In the Dashboard page, if the Mesh addr field in the XBee Wi-SUN card shows only zeros, click Settings in the sidebar to refresh device data.
-
With this setup in place, you are ready to explore core capabilities of Digi’s Wi-SUN solution through a series of short, hands-on exercises. Each exercise focuses on a specific capability of the platform and builds on the previous steps using the same hardware setup and preloaded configuration.
| All exercises assume that the firmware and configuration have been applied using the XBee Wi-SUN Get Started Quick Setup. If you have not yet applied the configuration, go back to Step 5 - Configure the Wi-SUN devices before proceeding. |
