XBee Studio’s Quick Setup feature simplifies the configuration of your Wi-SUN Development Kit devices. It lets you quickly apply predefined setups to your XBee modules.

These setups can range from simple processes to more elaborate demos that include Python or MicroPython applications and other components to create a complete system.

This Get Started section includes multiple Quick Setups, each one for a supported regulatory domain and variant:

  • XBee Wi-SUN Get Started (No WiFi - Europe)

  • XBee Wi-SUN Get Started (WiFi - Europe)

  • XBee Wi-SUN Get Started (No WiFi - North America)

  • XBee Wi-SUN Get Started (WiFi - North America)

Deploy the configuration onto the Wi-SUN Development Kit devices

Follow these steps to configure your Wi-SUN Development Kit devices using the XBee Wi-SUN Get Started Quick Setup:

  1. Ensure the XBee Hive Wi-SUN device is on the same LAN as your PC. To do it, you can connect the device over ethernet to your access point.

  2. Open XBee Studio and wait for your XBee Hive Wi-SUN and XBee Wi-SUN devices to be automatically discovered.

  3. When the discovery process finishes, XBee Studio displays all of the devices included in the kit. If this is the first time you discover the XBee Hive Wi-SUN with XBee Studio, it should appear as follows:

    Provide Credentials XBee Hive

If this is your case, click on the device to provide its credentials. XBee Studio stores them to avoid this step on future occasions.

The default user is admin and the password can be found in the label of your device.
  4. After the credentials are validated, the XBee Hive Wi-SUN device tab opens automatically.

  5. As no action is required within the tab, close it to go back to XBee Studio’s device browser. You should see something like this:

    {prod-name} discovered

The above picture shows all of the devices included in the kit.

  6. Access the Quick Setup wizard from the left navigation menu (lightning icon, second option in the list). The wizard page displays.

  7. Select the right XBee Wi-SUN Get Started Quick Setup for your regulatory domain and XBee Hive Wi-SUN variant from the list of available quick setups.

  8. Click Start. The tab associated with the selected quick setup displays.

The interactive help appears the first time you run a quick setup. To prevent it from appearing again, clear the Always show interactive help checkbox in the popup. You can close the help overlay by clicking anywhere on the screen.
  9. The Quick Setup tab displays a list of discovered devices and two role boxes, one for the Wi-SUN Border Router and the other for the Wi-SUN Node:

    1. Drag and drop the XBee Hive Wi-SUN device into the Wi-SUN Border Router role box.

    2. Drag and drop the XBee Wi-SUN devices into the Wi-SUN Nodes role box.

  10. Click Next to continue. The Summary page displays.

  11. Verify each Wi-SUN Development Kit device is associated with the correct role. Click Start to continue.

  12. The Flash page appears. It displays a table with the configuration progress for the Wi-SUN Development Kit devices selected in the Quick Setup. When the devices are fully configured, the Test page appears.

  13. Reboot the XBee devices by pressing the Reset button on the development board. This step ensures the network authentication and join processes start.

  14. At this point, you can close the quick setup tab and start exploring your Wi-SUN Development Kit.
