Configure application logging

You can configure application logging for the device and determine the type of log file you want to create, whether a log should be sent and to whom, and how long a log should be kept.

Note Configuring application logging is one step in a larger event logging process. For information about the complete process, see Application logging overview.

Before you begin

To configure application logging for a device:

  1. Log into the Z45 Controller's web UI.

  2. Click Admin Main.

  3. In the Options section, click Device Profile. The Device Profile page displays.

  4. Scroll down to the Application Logging section.

  5. Configure the options for logging. Refer to the table below for information about each field.

    Field Description

    Logging

    Select an option from the Logging list box to determine the type of log you want to create.

    • Disabled: Do not create a log.

    • Event Log: Create a log of events local to the device.

    • Event/System Log: Create a log of events local to the device as well as system logs that get sent to Digi Axess. This is the default.

    Keep Logs (Days)

    Determine the number of days for which you want to keep the log.

    Current Day Log

    Determine how the event log is managed when you change the configuration.

    • Keep on Run Configuration: If you change the configuration, keep the event log. This is the default.

    • Delete on Run Configuration: If you change the configuration, delete the event log.

  6. You can configure the device to email the event logs to the users in a selected group. Refer to the table below for information about each field.

    Field Description

    Email Logs

    Determines whether application logging is enabled for the device.

    • Disabled: An application log is not created. This is the default.

    • Event Log: An event log is created. The data in the log is local to the device. The data in this log is displayed in the Events tab in the Automation Control Log.

    • Detailed Log: A detailed systems log is created. The data in the systems log is sent to Digi Axess. The data in this log is displayed in the Details tab in the Automation Control Log.

    • Both: Both an event log and a detailed systems log are a created. The data in these logs are displayed in in the Events tab and the Details tab in the Automation Control Log.

    Email Group

    Select the device profile notification group to which the log should be sent from the Email Group list box.

    The file is sent as a .csv file attachment to an email which is sent to the users in the group.

    • None: Do not send an email.

    • Options 1 - 5: Up to five device profile notification groups can be created. The options are numbered and a group name displays if one has been configured. You can select one notification group from the list.

    Email Schedule

    You can schedule the event log to be emailed to the users in a device profile notification group. The event log is sent once a day.

    Select the desired days from the list. More than one can be selected.

  7. Click Update to save your changes.
