Application logging overview
Application logging is the method you can use to collect data from an input or output pin. You can review this data in the Automation Control Log page and can choose to have the log emailed to the users in the device profile notification group configured for the device.
To learn about the application logging feature, you should review and consider the following application logging items.
Collect data from an input or output pin
The application data that is logged comes from data collected from an input or output pin. You must configure data collection on a pin if you want to create an event or detailed systems log.
Configuring a pin to collect data and create a log is done in the Logging Options section in a pin configuration page.
Review the data in the Automation Control Log
The Automation Control Log records the data that was collected locally from the input or output pins at the schedule specified in the pin configuration. Each day at midnight, the local data is pushed to Digi Axess, which can be reviewed in the Automation Control Log.
Enable application logging for the device
You can enable and configure application logging for a device and determine the type of log file you want to create, whether the log file should be sent as an email attachment and to whom, and how long a log should be kept.
Email the event log
You can schedule the event log to be emailed to the users in a device profile email group. The file can be sent once a day, and is sent as a .csv file attachment to the email. If you choose to use this feature, you must configure at least one device profile alarms/email notification group with at least one user, and configure the email server that you want to use.
