Compare device reset modes and trigger methods

Each device reset mode enables you to reset a device to a different mode. You can trigger a device reset using the Reset button on the device, the Erase button in the device's web UI, or a CLI command.

Device reset mode	Description
Config reset mode	When you trigger Config reset mode, the following actions occur: Restores manufacturer's default configuration settings. Deletes user files, event/system logs, and user-configured APNs. Examples of user files that would be deleted include Python/application scripts, custom script files, LXC containers, and user-created folders and data. Generated keys and certificates remain.
Factory reset mode	When you trigger the Factory reset mode, the following actions occur: All custom settings, user files, event/system logs, generated keys, certificates, and user-configured/known-working APNs are deleted. The device reverts to the default settings specified by the manufacturer. If the device is running DAL OS firmware version 22.2.9.x or newer, performing a Factory reset will delete all client-side certificates, including certificate(s) used for Digi Remote Manager communication. If you are re-using the device, you will need to Reset the device's client-side certificate in Digi Remote Manager.

Methods to trigger a device reset

The device firmware determines the default actions for each trigger method: Reset button, Erase button in the web UI, and the CLI command.

Triggering any of the reset modes reverts the unique password you may have set back to the factory-assigned default password. The default admin password can be found on the product label on the bottom of the device or on the extra product label sticker that came with your device. Log in to the device after the reset is complete to change the factory-assigned default password to your unique password.

Trigger Config resetmode

You can use one of the following triggers to restore the device to Config resetmode.

• Press the ERASE button one time

  Trigger the Config Reset mode using the ERASE button

• Use the Erase button in the Web UI

  Trigger the Config Reset mode on a Digi device

• Use the revert command in the CLI

  Trigger the Config Reset mode using the CLI

Trigger Factory reset mode

You can use this trigger to restore the device to Factory reset mode.
