Information Technology for Public Transport (ITxPT) support

ITxPT is an industry standard implementation of information technology for public transportation systems. Your TX64-Rail router can function as a Vehicle Communications Gateway module, as well as a GNSS location server, time server, and MQTT broker.

Required configuration items

• Enable the ITxPT service.

• The ITxPT service priority.

  • The relative weight for records with the same priority.

• Enable Service Discovery (mDNS).

• GNSS location information:

  • Enable GNSS support for ITxPT.

  • The ITxPT priority for GNSS information.

    • The relative weight for records with the same priority.

• Network Time Protocol (NTP)

  • Enable NTP support for ITxPT.

  • The ITxPT priority for NTP information.

    • The relative weight for records with the same priority.

• MQTT broker

  • Enable the MQTT messges for ITxPT.

  • The ITxPT priority for MQTT messges .

    • The relative weight for records with the same priority.

Additional configuration Items

• A unique identifier for the ITxPT service, to avoid naming conflicts.

• Location information:

  • ITxPT multicast port, if different than the default.

  • ITxPT multicast IP address, if different than the default.

 

Configure the ITxPT service

 

  Web

1. Log into Digi Remote Manager, or log into the local Web UI as a user with full Admin access rights.
2. Access the device configuration:
   Remote Manager:

   1. Locate your device as described in Use Digi Remote Manager to view and manage your device.
   2. Click the Device ID.
   3. Click Settings.
   4. Click to expand Config.
   Local Web UI:

   1. On the menu, click System. Under Configuration, click Device Configuration.

      

      The Configuration window is displayed.

3. Click Services > ITxPT.
4. Click Enable.
5. For Priority, type or select the priority for this ITxPT service. A lower number represents higher priority. The default is 0.
6. For Weight, type or select the relative weight for records with same priority. A higher number means that records from this service are more preferred. The default is 0.
7. (Optional) For Unique identifier, type an identifier that will be used to avoid naming conflicts.
8. Enable Service Discovery (mDNS)

   Service Discovery (mDNS) must be enabled for ITxPT support. It is enabled by default. Follow this procedure to enable it if has been disabled.

   1. Click Services > Service Discovery (mDNS).
   2. Click Enable.
   3. Click Access control list to configure access control:

      • To limit access to specified IPv4 addresses and networks:
        1. Click IPv4 Addresses.
        2. For Add Address, click .
        3. For Address, enter the IPv4 address or network that can access the device's mDNS service. Allowed values are:
           • A single IP address or host name.
           • A network designation in CIDR notation, for example, 192.168.1.0/24.
           • any: No limit to IPv4 addresses that can access the mDNS service.
        4. Click  again to list additional IP addresses or networks.
      • To limit access to specified IPv6 addresses and networks:
        1. Click IPv6 Addresses.
        2. For Add Address, click .
        3. For Address, enter the IPv6 address or network that can access the device's mDNS service. Allowed values are:
        • A single IP address or host name.
        • A network designation in CIDR notation, for example, 2001:db8::/48.
        • any: No limit to IPv6 addresses that can access the mDNS service.
        4. Click  again to list additional IP addresses or networks.
      • To limit access to hosts connected through a specified interface on the device:
        1. Click Interfaces.
        2. For Add Interface, click .
        3. For Interface, select the appropriate interface from the dropdown.
        4. Click  again to allow access through additional interfaces.
      • To limit access based on firewall zones:
        1. Click Zones. By default, there are three firewall zones already configured: Internal, Edge, and IPsec.
        2. For Add Zone, click .
        3. For Zone, select the appropriate firewall zone from the dropdown.

        4. Click  again to allow access through additional firewall zones.
9. Configure the GNSS location service for ITxPT:

   1. Click Services > Location.
   2. The location service is enabled by default. If it has been disabled, click to toggle on Enable the location service.
   3. GNSS is enabled by default as a location source. If it has been disabled:
      1. Click to expand Location sources.
      2. Click to expand gnss.
      3. Click to toggle on Enable the location source.
   4. Configure ITxPT:
      1. Click to expand ITxPT.
      2. Click Enable to enable the device to include GNSS information with ITxPT support.
      3. For Priority, type or select the priority for GNSS information. A lower number represents higher priority. The default is 0.
      4. For Weight, type or select the relative weight for records with same priority. A higher number means that records from this service are more preferred. The default is 0.
      5. (Optional) Type or select the Port to forward ITxPT GNSS information to. The default is 14005.
      6. (Optional) Type the IPv4 or IPv6Address to forward ITxPT GNSS information to. The default is 239.255.42.21.

10. Configure the NTP service for ITxPT:

    1. Click Services > NTP.
    2. The NTP service is disabled by default. Click to toggle on Enable.
    3. Configure ITxPT:
       1. Click to expand ITxPT.
       2. Click Enable to enable the device to include NTP information with ITxPT support.
       3. For Priority, type or select the priority for NTP information. A lower number represents higher priority. The default is 0.
       4. For Weight, type or select the relative weight for records with same priority. A higher number means that records from this service are more preferred. The default is 0.

11. Configure the MQTT broker for ITxPT:

    1. Click Services > MQTT broker
    2. The MQTT broker is disabled by default. Click to toggle on Enable.
    3. Configure ITxPT:
       1. Click to expand ITxPT.
       2. Click Enable to enable the device to include MQTT messages with ITxPT support.
       3. For Priority, type or select the priority for MQTT messages. A lower number represents higher priority. The default is 0.
       4. For Weight, type or select the relative weight for records with same priority. A higher number means that records from this service are more preferred. The default is 0.

12. Click Apply to save the configuration and apply the change.
