Use a dead reckoning external USB GNSS receiver

The TX54-PR device supports an external USB GNSS receiver to provide dead reckoning-based location information. The USB GNSS receiver is available for purchase from Digi International Inc..

The ability to use an external USB GNSS receiver is enabled by default. After purchasing the USB GNSS receiver, plug it into a USB port on the TX54-PR, and it will begin providing location information.

To disable support for the external GNSS receiver, or enable it if it has been disabled:


  Web

  1. Log into Digi Remote Manager, or log into the local Web UI as a user with full Admin access rights.
  2. Access the device configuration:

    1. Locate your device as described in Use Digi Remote Manager to view and manage your device.
    2. Click the Device ID.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click to expand Config.

    1. On the menu, click System. Under Configuration, click Device Configuration.

      The Configuration window is displayed.

  3. Click Services > Location > Location sources > usb.
  4. (Optional) Type a Label for the USB location source.
  5. For Type of location source, leave the selection at USB module.
  6. Click Enable the location source to disable the USB GNSS receiver, or to enable it if it has been disabled.
  7. Alternatively, you can also delete the usb location source:
    1. Click the menu icon (...) next to the usb location source.
    2. Click Delete.

  8. Click Apply to save the configuration and apply the change.
  1. Select the device in Remote Manager and click Actions > Open Console, or log into the TX54-PR local command line as a user with full Admin access rights.

    Depending on your device configuration, you may be presented with an Access selection menu. Type admin to access the Admin CLI.

  2. At the command line, type config to enter configuration mode:
    > config

  3. Enable or disable the USB module:
    1. Use the show command to determine the index number of the USB location source:
      (config)> show service location source

(config)>
    2. Use the index number to enable or disable the module:
      • To enable the module:
        (config)> service location source 0 enable true
(config)>
      • To disable the module:
        (config)> service location source 0 enable false
(config)>
  4. Alternatively, you can use the index number to delete the USB location source:
    (config)> del service location 0
(config)>
  5. Save the configuration and apply the change
    (config)> save

  6. Type exit to exit the Admin CLI.

    Depending on your device configuration, you may be presented with an Access selection menu. Type quit to disconnect from the device.
