Configure the 2/WAN Ethernet port as a LAN

This procedure reconfigures the 2/WAN port to serve as port for a LAN, which will result in the device having two separate LANs: the default ETH1 LAN, and the LAN created in this procedure. To utilize both LANs, you will need to have a device connected to the 2/WAN port, and a separate device connected to the 1/PoE port, and these devices will be on separate LANs.

To configure the 2/WAN Ethernet port as a LAN:

 

  Web

  1. Log into Digi Remote Manager, or log into the local Web UI as a user with full Admin access rights.
  2. Access the device configuration:

    1. Locate your device as described in Use Digi Remote Manager to view and manage your device.
    2. Click the Device ID.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click to expand Config.

    1. On the menu, click System. Under Configuration, click Device Configuration.

      The Configuration window is displayed.

  3. Click Network > Interfaces > ETH2.
  4. For Zone, select Internal.

  5. Configure IPv4 settings:
    1. Click to expand IPv4.
    2. For Type, select Static IP address.
    3. For Address, type the IPv4 address and netmask, using the format IPv4_address/netmask, for example, 192.168.3.1/24.

    4. Enable the DHCP server:
      1. Click to expand DHCP server.
      2. Click to toggle on Enable.
    5. Disable SureLink:
      1. Click to expand SureLink.
      2. Click to toggle off Enable.
  6. (Optional) Configure IPv6 settings:
    1. Click to expand IPv6.
    2. For Type, select IPv6 prefix delegation.
  7. Click Apply to save the configuration and apply the change.
  1. Select the device in Remote Manager and click Actions > Open Console, or log into the EX12 local command line as a user with full Admin access rights.

    Depending on your device configuration, you may be presented with an Access selection menu. Type admin to access the Admin CLI.

  2. At the command line, type config to enter configuration mode:

    > config
(config)>

  3. Set the zone to internal:
    (config)> network interface eth2 zone internal
(config)>
  4. Configure IPv4 settings:
    1. Set the type to static:
      (config)> network interface eth2 ipv4 type static
(config)>
    2. Set the address IPv4 address and netmask, using the format IPv4_address/netmask, for example:
      (config)> network interface eth2 ipv4 address 192.168.3.1/24
(config)>
    3. Enable the DHCP server:
      (config)> network interface eth2 ipv4 dhcp_server enable true
(config)>
    4. Disable SureLink:
      (config)> network interface eth2 ipv4 surelink enable false
(config)>
  5. (Optional) Configure IPv6:
    1. Set the type to prefix_delegation:
      (config)> network interface eth2 ipv6 type prefix_delegation
(config)>
  6. Save the configuration and apply the change.
    (config)> save
Configuration saved.

  7. Type exit to exit the Admin CLI.

    Depending on your device configuration, you may be presented with an Access selection menu. Type quit to disconnect from the device.
